Introduction
Always an absolute treat to hear Lisa’s creations and she certainly has an artistic
hallmark to her music, which my ears now possess. I’m pretty sure I’d know it
anywhere, and that is an important tool in any artist’s armour. The other artist who
has this magic is Ann Sweeten, toprecording artist and performer, so Lisa you
are in marvellous company my dear!!!!
“Hope”
The opening little phrases are a complete delight, and in my mind’s eye a frosted angel
in balletic pose turns for all to see, but her song at the moment sounds a little sad to me,
she is dancing in ‘hope’ of finding that what is not known. I feel my arms reaching out in her
direction, but she is too beautiful to be touched for fear of breaking.
This track is part of a ‘series’ of Melody Diaries by Lisa and is her first single,
developed from the number four thereof. There is an abundance of twinkly motifs and I
can’t help but see them as pale pink tea-roses
with their little yellow pollenated centres.Musical workings are in symbiosis here, a
piano with a sound only made in heaven, pure and dreamy, versus little mechanical ‘let goes’
from Lisa’s feet, punctuated and metallic like harpsichord ‘jacks.’
Tender strings with panoramic swipe are arranged to perfection, and come to the
foreground, strong and determined, the piano backs away, but not for too long in this 3:24
quadruple measure. Talking of measurements, I’m in two minds?? ......four-
four, or two-two, think I’ll go for four-four as the breakdown of semiquavers Lisa is using
would fit better, and later broken down into sixes, twelve triplets in a row. This wonderful
musical device lends itself to sublime bass clef accompaniment like water lapping at the feet
of never ending circles in pink perpetual motion.
A glistening harp with flowers for strings is
plucked to perfection, and ‘Hope’ springseternal as it winds a wreath of green. A
gorgeous ascending motif forms a hiatus before plummeting down and holds the hand
of a Disney princess in waiting, as she breathes silvery sparkles into a cold air.
Flat-lining brings me to attention, just briefly, and I wait for the next sprig of phrasing,
felting as it goes. My ears tell me of an awaiting Coda, and I’m
getting the palest blue of hue, as it kisses my cheek in farewell.
Lisa is right on point to cast for this November sky, a woman and composer of wisdom is she.
Timeless in the fruits of her labour
