Single Review by Kerry Barnes

“Change”

Introduction
Here we have another wonderful track from Lisa’s ‘Melody Diaries’ inspiration.
It’s part of Number 11, and follows on from Number 4 which I have also
reviewed. “Change”I must tell you urgently that the first three
notes of Lisa’s melody here are, G, F# and B, now you may be thinking ‘ok
and.....’well, I’m currently working on an arrangement of Saint Saens ‘The Swan’
and the first three notes are G, F# and B!! ......but it seemed so surreal to see my
score right next to me, with those notes staring at me, and then to sing in my
mind’s eye Lisa’s G, F# and B!!!! What an incredible coincidence!!!
I just love the key of B minor here, a wise choice Lisa. Here we go again.....the
gorgeous ‘machinations’ which are a hallmark of this particular creative
journey. I feel as though I’m walking into a human sized kaleidoscope, full of snowy
pixels, and they fly at me from an invisible screen.
A beautiful cello with its hour glass figure, strokes long sweeping bows, and I smell
the resin as it catches the first gritty note. Lisa manipulates all workings of ‘time’ and
the terrain certainly ‘Changes’ here. There’s so much going on!! .......12/8 and 3
against 2, fragments of ‘diminished’ chords which provide these bassy rumbles
of underwater accompaniment and bubbles of bliss.
Lisa’s playing melts me from my frozen state, peeling misty layers as she goes.
Sometimes huddled, sometimes breaking free, but always the music comes back to
centre ground, and showers me with red confetti.
Ooh, the rich tapestry politely backs to a burner, and an almost white noise
descends upon us, still and haunting.Night begins to fall on this twinkly merry-
go-round and I carry my gold fish with pride as his little fins swim towards a
gentle closing. I sing with Lisa the final octave-apart, in unison with her.
What a beautiful creation, by a beautiful lady
Encore Please!!
