Single Review For Annie Locke
“Blue Skies Waltz”
Composed and Performed by Annie Locke
Review written by Kerry Barnes
“Blue Skies Waltz” Another great track from the eminent pianist Annie Locke. A waltz full of a fresh blue sky, open and free. I picture a man and woman in ‘hold’ never losing their ‘top-line’. So romantic in style and mood and makes me feel like wanting a husband for myself to dance with!!! Dressed in red and blue finery and ready to go. A divine flow is present, so smooth and pretty in the masterful hands of this wonder-woman pianist. She presents perfectly articulated melodic-octaves in the right hand and at their tops are sparklers of the tune, so easily singable, on the first play. Then oooh, the clock strikes twelve and Cinderella must run from the arms of the gentlemen in blue, what a lovely touch indeed! Am loving the treatment of cadences, with their rubato and fermata and the little insert of left hand chords for waltz-form presentation.
Annie has always played octaves so beautifully, and here they are twinkly and staggered for great effect and make the tune even more delightful!! Unexpected and surprising modulations command my attention, and I say to myself ‘wish I’d thought of that!!’ Now we travel in forward motion, I feel it, still giving to us……and then……fermata and resting giving way to Annie’s masterful pedalling, catching all the notes she wants in her net. I don’t know the make of Annie’s piano but her endings have this wonderful hallmark. Bravo Annie, great job indeed!!!
