“AURELYN”
Vocals and vocal arrangement-Joran Elane
Music composed and performed -Paul Landry
Lyrics by Helmut W. Pesch
Introduction
“Aurelyn” is an enchanting collaboration between Joran Elane and Paul Landry.
Their combined talent is out of this world, Joran, a singer-songwriter and graphic
designer, and Paul a multi-instrumentalist of wide ranging skills!!
6.42 of pure loveliness.
An Elven-Meditation if ever I heard one! In the morning mist, a Celtic-New-Age
flute sings it’s mystical melody, swirling around are it’s family of harmonics, just
floating, very other-worldly. An invitation calls to the symphonic synths, and all
writhes together.
A beautiful garlanded goddess, with pale blue blood, bleeds gently into view, and I
feel her cold breath on my face. Her harmonic wash of vocals, sung on vowels
from another land, lift me up, I feel very light. I love the way Paul’s flute sounds
end with a very slow vibrato, followed by the most atmospheric Fermatas, this
technique holds listener attention.
Then, a metronomic gentle pulse emerges from the light, it’s steady and
mesmerising, like a piano sending lanterns, one by one, up into the heavens.
Joran sees this light as her cue to now sing a singular melodic line. Such beautiful
singing, her end of note vibrato is fast, like a rattle-snake in a daydream, soft and
embellished. It offers her a tear of light which she holds in her hand, it’s white
cross in contrast with a wired-garland gently placed upon her brow, with kisses
from fauna and flora.
Paul’s sensual and meditative tapestry is the perfect accompaniment here and I
feel like I’m at the cinema with surround sound, but very delicately so.
As Joran’s vocals become stronger, Paul makes her chase an ethereal harp, up and
down and round and round, then tries to divert her further with guitar strumming
coming from somewhere, maybe an everglade close by. An old friend comes
into view, that beautiful Celtic Flute with it’s descending little phrases, caressing
Joran’s vocals that emerge from her beautiful and dreamy profile. Her lips
propel a sound like a breath we can see in the winter, but calming and tranquil.
As we near the closing fade, Joran seemsto whisper ‘meow’ in gentle repetition,
whilst Paul graciously bows out like a gentleman.
Outro.
How lovely for us all to witness this
wonderful pairing of two great musiciansand I’m sure this won’t be their last project. Bravo!!
