Single Review For Lisa Swerdlow
“All Is Not Lost”
Piano and Orchestra piece composed and performed by Lisa Swerdlow.
Introduction. I’m in awe of this amazing lady. Not many musicians or composers could continue to produce consistently great work under what I know to be such difficult circumstances. But she is still standing, has the love of her life, and of course, has her music, so all is not lost!
“All Is Not Lost”
This musical cloud definitely has a bright silver lining, it’s strong shafts of light speak directly to a wanting and open mouthed piano. It starts to sing a reflective and emotive song, just alone at first, but not for long because a cello and oboe snuggle up beside her, comforting in their supportive counterpoint.
The music grips me now, in a way I wasn’t expecting, my emotions are saturated and my heart is bleeding. My daughter who sits beside me while I type says “mum, that music is so beautiful” ……
I couldn’t agree more, Lisa so knows how to communicate her innermost feelings through her music. It is her total being. I love the way the whole piece waits in ‘rubato’ , ……but then crashing waves break on gritty sands, and break the spell of sadness, even the cymbals know, that this is so.
Lisa drags right hand octaves down, almost against their will, ‘I am done with you’ she says!! I’m experiencing a musical glaze, and my eyes feel heavy as if drifting between five and four time, in and out. I now see clearly as the beautiful orchestration envelopes me in a warm and comforting embrace. Their climbing ascent is passionate and dynamic, as they head towards a safe place, where ‘all is not lost’ a message reinforced in scarlet red, beside a mossy and well trodden path. A calm so sweet, listens to a lone cello, moaning, Lisa is alone with her thoughts here, thoughts about the future. I think it’s going to be great Lisa! Take your bow sweet lady, the applause, hear it, feel it, see it
